Idea #339: Easier adding movie clips in sequencer

Written by Ammusionist the 1 May 11 at 20:22. Category: Sequencer. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
All too frequently when loading movie files into the sequencer, the sound track is out of synch or the movie runs at the wrong speed. This is because the render presents are not the same as the file being loaded.

Solution #1: Load Render Preset from existing media file
Written by Ammusionist the 1 May 11 at 20:22.
It would be great to have the option to load the render preset from an existing file so that the file can then be loaded in the sequencer with reasonable confidence that frame-rates and sample rates in both audio and video will correctly synch up.

Perhaps have a "Load from media file..." option in the existing presets drop down that opens a file browser for media files and on selection, reads the codec information and adjusts the preset accordingly.

(Note - If the file only has Audio or only has Video then only those settings should be affected.)

There's "Strip->Set Render Size" but I'd say it could set also the framerate.

Fun thing is also that the video length did not change when I loaded up a .mov file in there with sounds. The file is 30fps and the video is in different size than the sound clip. When I changed that output fps to 30, the video plays fine and sound comes in time but in the strip view the sounds end before the video. Weird thing is still happening...
