Idea #428: Using scripts (python) to rapidly animate characters

Written by skywola the 9 Dec 11 at 16:41. Category: Animation. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
Several years ago I wrote a script that allows manipulation of bones in Maya, using MEL, and it allowed someone to very rapidly animate various types of characters, like humans, dogs, birds, spiders, centaurs, etc. You can see detail of it here:

However, upon discovering Blender, I find that Blender has no such capability, making all my efforts for creating a script like this in Python hopeless . . .

Solution #1: Using python to rapidly animate characters

If I understand it correctly, there is only one way to manipulate bones with code, and that is in the edit mode, and two different inaccessable methods. It seems to me that it would not take much to make these methods available, after all, Maya is capable of doing it. Thanks for reading my suggestion!
