Idea #496: VSE: Have Images Retain Dimensions

Written by DavidBrennan the 17 Jun 12 at 19:37. Category: Sequencer. Related project: Nothing/Others. Status: New
Rationale
In the VSE (as well as when importing images into the Nodes with an Input > Image Node), when you import a large image, Blender automatically squishes it to the Render dimensions.

For example, if you have a large 2,000x2,000 px image of the Eiffel Tower, and your Blender Render Dimensions are regular HD (1920x1080)....then Blender is going to squash the Eiffel Tower down so it looks like a giant just stomped it.

Obviously, for just one image, this is not a huge deal, because you can use several techniques to get it back to its native dimensions.

However, when you are importing many images, it is EXTREMELY time-consuming and aggravating to have to go in and constantly re-set the dimensions of each and every image.

Solution #1: Checkbox: "Maintain Original Dimensions"
Written by DavidBrennan the 17 Jun 12 at 19:37.
A simple solution would save many users hours and hours of tedious labor: just a checkbox in the VSE's "N" panel that reads: "Maintain original dimensions".

This would just make sure that the image kept the same aspect ratio as the source file. So if the imported image (or video) was a square, then Blender wouldn't squish it down into a rectangle.

Thanks to everybody at Blender, as always.
