Already Done!

For ideas that come up as "Already Done!", it would be excellent if they described, or named, or pointed to wards videos, tutorials, documentation, and a box of free donuts.
Well the donuts aren't critical, but for instance, the Bridge suggestion says it"Already Done!" -- but i do not see that feature in Blender.

New Blenderstorming Filter - Latest Ideas I have Not Voted On
kind of self explanitory.
makes it show ideas you have NOT seen.
and doen;t show you the ones You've already voted on -- unless You want to see them.

Special Animated 3D viewport
Written by etyrnal the 19 Nov 08 at 12:19. Category: Interface. New
the idea:
Say You are modeling something like car (anything that constant visual feedback from different angles will help with)...
It would be great to be able to open a 3D viewport window and be able to have 'camera' for that viewport constantly orbit the subject at a user determinable speed/pattern...
Like having the car on a turntable so that while You are modeling for precision in the other 3D views, you get constant artistic visual feedback on the object You're modeling... the camera would just keep moving while You're modeling.
maybe a script could do this, but it would be cool if there was a built-in way - kind of like a 'fly' mode, but rather a 'turntable-inspection' mode...
=)
just dreaming...

Outliner, click on item jumps to relevant panel & subpanel & focuses...

It would be GREAT, if when clicking on items in the outliner, such as a specific modifiers, or vertex group, or whatever, Blender INTELLIGENTLY jumps to the correct Panel, and SubPanel, and if possible reveals, and or focuses, or centers on the relevant or related parameters...

mouse-over node connections show current value
Written by etyrnal the 1 Oct 08 at 15:29. Category: Rendering. New
the idea is simple - when you hover the mouse cursor over or near enough to a noodle or connection point, it will show you you the current value - eg. want to check to see if the result of your math is comming out to be what you'd expect?

Proxy Object for Visual Aide - especially in modifiers & materials
Written by etyrnal the 12 Aug 08 at 15:59. Category: Modelling. New
the idea was born from my attempts at using a curve object to modify a mesh via a Curve modifier - normally once the modifier is has been applied, the curve object will not necessarily be displayed in the 3D view in any menaingful alignment with the mesh being deformed.
It would be great if there could be a "for display purposes only" version of the Curve object -- a display-proxy, if you will - that would show the Curve in the space as the mesh it's influencing...

Render Time Impact "Metrics" w/ Visual Feedback/Guides
Written by etyrnal the 3 Jun 08 at 15:36. Category: Rendering. New
Sorry for the conversational format, but ideas were emerging is it was being discussed...
first i'd like to say that this idea is NOT about calculating exact, or even remotely accurate estimations -- it's about estimating RELATIVE IMPACT. For instance: adjusting the parameter will affect the final outcome "only a little", or "Exponentially", or "Check back next Week"... and now...
etyrnal> a cool feature would be this: for any value in Blender that affects render time, colorize the arrows in the interface... (an option of course)... but for instance the number of samples in AO for Ray Trace... the left arrow would be blue, and the right would be red... it would be a great visual aide (for a very visual app) to help us all make faster decisions about efficiency
etyrnal> how does anyone in here feel about an idea like that?
LetterRip> etyrnal, put the proposal on blenderstorm
DustyDingo> etyrnal: nearly everything affects rendering time
etyrnal> DustyDingo, exactly - it would be nice to knwo at a glance -- this would appeal to artists more who want to care more about results, more than understanding math
etyrnal> LetterRip, thanks -- will check
DustyDingo> etyrnal: maybe this information should be part of a tooltip
etyrnal> DustyDingo, sometimes it is there already - i feel the information would be more instant, and more easily overviewed at a glance if it were on a per-parameter basis
etyrnal> it would be even nicer if in addition to the individual parameters, each section (eg. the materials window(, would have a little simple meter showing overall render time impact of chosen settings

Noodle Highlighting in OOPS
Written by etyrnal the 24 Jul 08 at 09:41. Category: Interface. New
Would be nice if there were some sort of intelligent Noodle Highlighting in the OOPS.
e.g if You select a single node, that noodle turns a different color.
e.g. if You select a noodle the nodes it interconnects either become highlited or selected...
e.g. or right-click on a noodle for a list of noodle/node related options...
e.g. select a noodle... press + and the selection expands..
etc...

shift-space w/ cursor on boundry of 2 windows - EXPAND BOTH
Written by etyrnal the 13 Nov 08 at 14:31. Category: Interface. New
Currently SHIFT-SPACE will expand whatever view the cursor is hovering over, to be opened full-screen...
i'd love it if SHIFT-SPACE if done when cursor is hovering over the line between two views would "full screen" those two views either side-by-side, or over-and-under, based on the current relationship of the two frames...
That is all.
Class dismissed.

Outliner pop-up info
Written by etyrnal the 23 Jul 08 at 22:13. Category: Interface. New
Would be cool if in the Outliner, especially when there is a LONG list of materials, constraints, or whatever, that when You hover the mouse cursor over the army of identical-looking icons a bubble will pop up telling You which one is which...
or it would be cool if You could search by name with instant feedback and a list of suggestions as you type...
it would also be cool, if when You select something in the 3D viewport, the outliner would show the item and open the hierarchy it located within.

a small library of common, modifiable armature rigs that can be added from the ADD OBJECTS menu...
and a method of binding those rigs to meshes who's geometry is reasonably fit.
Pick the 4 most popular methods of rigging, and add these style armature-systems to Blender ADD menu.

INTERACTIVE IPO Cleaning/Smoothing
Written by etyrnal the 22 Sep 08 at 05:14. Category: Animation. New
that's right - You HEARD ME...
select a range of points - and INTERACTIVELY adjust level of smoothing, cleaning, or lag-filtering... IN REAL TIME - meaning while You move the slider with the mouse, the points in the IPO editor reflect the changes as You adjust...
a huge bonus would be that it could be done while the animation loops around the frame range that encompasses the points so You can SEE what You get - nut just experiment...
also it would be cool if there was a "SMARTer Smoothing" algorithm -- one that can take into account PEAKS and VALLEYS, and smooth the other points around those so the total 'amplitude' doesn't change -- currently smoothing seems to garantie Your amplitude WILL be squashed... not good. There has to be a way to make smoothing more-smarterer
ok - go.

Light Mixer Object
Written by etyrnal the 13 Nov 08 at 01:41. Category: Lighting. New
An object that is a master light mixer.
Tell it what group it's controlling, and it would have all the same setting as a regular light except when You adjust it's variable settings, it adjust the settings of all the lights in the designated group as a ratio...
All individual lights keep their original settings, but they are offset by the mixer object...
or is there another way to do this?
