Currently you have to RMB on the bone then you go to the Armature bones panel , "BO" text field , LMB on it to enter in edit state , finally you can change the name of it , that makes quite a lot of back and forth if you have several bones.
You can also change the bone name in the properties panel of the viewport (less movements but they are still there) or in the outliner (you can ctrl+LMB on them , if you have a hierarchie you'll have to expand them first though).
It can be cool if there was a short cut involved in this re-naming process, one that would open a pop up text field in edit state under the cursor, allowing you to enter the name much more quickly IMHO .
I was thinking about ctrl + RMB which doesn't seem do to anything in any mode currently .
ctrl + RMB a bone , type the name , enter ;
ctrl + RMB another one , type the name , enter ;
etc .
