Custom colored meshes

Give the user the ability to color meshes in a user defined color for wireframemode. The object should be highlighted with this color and its mesh should be displayed in this color in wireframe mode.
The benefits is to give better orientation in complex scenes.
Further benefits taken from a duplicate idea 329:
"Useful in rigging when you have characters with multiple controlers object, and colorizing curves and wires would help organize your scene.
For Example, left controls were blue, right controls were red, middle controls were yellow...."
This proposal is basically a different and hoepfully workable solution to my first idea to color vertex groups and groups which was flawed since objects and vertices can be part of more then one vertex-/group. (See http://www.blenderstorm.org/qapoll/ideas/idea/101/)
So each object, vertex can only be part of one color group.

Show statistics about an idea

It would be nice to see how many positive and how many negative votes an idea got.
This would help to distinguish controversial ideas and ideas that have just very few people interested in them.
Example:
idea1 hast 10 postivie votes and 0 negative votes.
idea2 has 60 positive votes and 50 negative votes.
Both ideas show 10 votes.

Ability to stick notes on nodes

It would be cool if we could stick notes onto nodes and groupnodes explaining what the intention for the node is.
The best analogy I can come up with is documenting methods in programming languages.

Colored Vertexgroup and Groups

I would love to be able to assign a user defined color to vertexgroups and groups.
This would help to distinguish features in comples meshes and scenes.

Indicate the scale/zoom factor of the view in the viewport
|
|
Written by musk the 5 Jul 08 at 00:45. Category: Interface. New

I'd like to have an indication at what zoom level the grid in the viewport currently is.
If you are using 1 BU = 1m then you have a hard time to know what 1BU is unless you have a reference object in the scene.
If you accidentally (or on purpose for that matter) zoomed in and did not notice drawing a shape gives you no clue if you have 1BU or .1BU at the current level.
The zoomfactor could be displayed as a simple ratio in the viewport 1:1, 1:10 etc... indicating at what level you are currently at.

Sort ideas according to different criterias in each category

Currently we only have the Most popular, lastest ideas, random ideas, etc... menu items. In order to make ideas better browsable it would be great if we had the ability to sort ideas in each category.
Things that come to mind are:
Sort by votes desc and asc
Sort alphabetical desc and asc
Sort by voted and not voted
Sort by idea number

Collapse long strips for easy editing
|
|
Written by musk the 20 Jul 08 at 01:34. Category: Sequencer. New
|
|
When you edit video files you often end up with long strips that have many thousand frames. To make it easier to handle these strips you can scale the sequence editor but when you need to do short blends. Like a gamma cross fade for about 1-2 secs you have to zoom in which often results in a lot of scrolling.
It would be nice if it was possible to replac the long strips with a proxy block that still resembles the original block but is only as wide as needed for the effects put upon it no mater what zoom level you are on.
The sequencer timeline would still show the correct frames for the end and the beginning.
You can work on them like a normal strip only that all operations are mapped to the true length of the block.
Like when you edit metastrips you can also tab into these proxy strips to edit the original frames.
Example: you have two video files each being 12400 frames long. When you replace them with a proxy you only see two blocks that are approximatley 2sec in length each. The timeline shows that the first proxy starts at frame 1while the second proxy starts at 12400 the end of the first proxy block.
Hope this makes sense.

Show preference header per default in default b.blend file
|
|
Written by musk the 17 Jul 08 at 14:11. Category: Preferences. New
|
|
A lot of times people complain that blender behaves different then most other apps. And with a few of these arguments there is a option which has to be activated or deactivated. Since new users often don'T know where the preferences are hidden and there exists no menu shortcut to reach them I'd suggest to expand the header with preferences per default in the default b.blend file.
Exprienced users will have their own b.blend anyway and new users will see immediatly where the prefs are and can customize blender to their likings. Once they are done they can hide the header and press the obligatory CTRL+U.
