Description
Like with all major 3d animations, it would be nice to have an integrated solution for rendering across a local area network. Such as under render having a box called "NetRender" after which it would scan the LAN and distribute work.

issues/disadvantages of external solutions
- external application, in some cases complex setup
- lack on integration for post Node processing (as far as I know)
- lack of development
- bucket rendering (in some cases) requires second apps
- not portable between computers

Last might need some definition

portable means that I simply copy one directory (blender) and no installation is required (windows). with other packages, additional setup is required.

Great idea.

I would love if there is special window for that (like "Outliner"). There you could add a node (IP), remove a node, scan local area network for available nodes, etc.

In order to enable machine as a node, you would only start the same version of blender on it. Maybe with some kind of "--nogui" parameter or something.

Good idea,

I would be happy if such a feature would be able to write and execute a batch file or shell script with multiple jobs in it.

I hate to rain on people's parade, but what about using DrQueue? Maybe we need better integration with that.... Let's not reinvent the wheel here, people.

I do 1/2 agree with not reinventing the wheel.

If there was a good integration then by all means.

As long as it addressed the following.

- no install, just decompression. For blender i just unzip the package and i can run it without any problems. makes it very portable, i can even run it of the USB pen drive. Not sure if DrQueue can do that but i could be mistaken.

- if integration allows me to select in render screen instead of Blender or Yafaray, Blender(net) and Yafaray(net) and bucket render (single frame split into separate parts)

DrQueue is not the simplest and easiest tool. I can say that FarmerJoe is a much better solution, but there is no further development.

dr. queue "works" but is a collosal waste of time as far as setting up machines - no disrespect - but i think a much more elegant solution will be to have it integrated into Blender - keep it all in python - also make it so that it can be used over the net so hobbiests can colaborate too

Except single frame distribution, what is wrong with the "touch" and "no overwrite" option, I find it efficient and extremely simple to set up compared to other packages. It would be better to improve it than create something else.
