Written by Prodeous the 16 Oct 08 at 18:55. Category: Modelling. Status: New
Description
Currently there are only three options to adjust the center of the object. Center New, Center Cursor, and Center.

It would be nice addition to be able to adjust the object center by simply translating it to a desired position.

Edit
Also add the posibility to change scale and rotation without modification of the mesh structure in any way.

Don't you know that button 'Move Object Centers Only' in 3DView header? It does exactly what you described, but only for scaling and rotating.

It could be implemented that when this button is turned on and only one object is selected, you would move only its center (and keep vertices on the same position in space). When more objects are selected it would behave like now.

I used the "Move Object Centers Only" button and it does no such thing.

It does allow you to transform objects relation to each other without transforming the object itself, but does not allow you to transform the objects center directly.

If it did, you could rotate the objects center, and it's local axis would rotate without the object itself rotating.

This is very frustrating, and is an option badly needed. We need to be able to move, transform, and scale an objects center without transforming the object itself.

You can have a work-around by creating an empty (or any dummy object), snapping it to the center of the target object, apply the desired transform to the empty, and then using the "Axis Orientation Copy" script, apply that transform to the target object's center. Pain it the ass, but it works.

Fish B8 is right. Frankly it's a "mystery what the move object centers only" is actually for and more importantly why its still in blender.
BUT, one nifty workaround is using the snap to cursor. choose where in 3d space you want to put your center and snap to it! funky eh
