Description
In several modifiers, constraints etc. you can select object they're affected by (for example Armature, MeshDeform, Mirror and Lattice). It would be more natural to click into that textbox and then click on the object you want to select.

Additionally, the possibility to drag and drop the object... but selecting might end up better.

DragnDrop would be hard to integrate into the UI in this case. When you drag over an object, you just make a mouse gesture.

yeah, i put this idea in someone's idea about a drop down list but i think being able to pick an object would be a better solution... and it would be nice to have the ability to type something in but also having like a little "DROPPER" icon like photoshop - if you click on that, you can select an object that you want to be assigned. and that selection can happen in EVERY VIEW THAT MAKES SENSE. so you can do it in the 3d views, the outliner, schematic, etc.

picking and dragging together are still a rarity in blender, but I would love it to get it integrated. Not only picking in 3d view, but also in outliner or oops...

This is one of the best ideas here yet. I've gotten so used to the cumbersome typing or copying object names I already forgot that one could actually pick them, IF this was implemented.

I sure hope this will be part of Blender one day.

Good idea (I'll vote for it), but when objects are overlapping in the 3D view, which is very often in my projects, one would need some drop down list (like the ALT+RMB one).

To avoid typos, I use CTRL-C + CTRL-V. But this copy/paste isn't very efficient, since most people first apply a modifier/envmap/etc before thinking about what will go into the "OB:" field.

Still, I don't agree with the drag & drop idea, dragging an object out of the 3D view doesn't make sense for me.

That's what I was thinking, too. Drag&drop from the viewport might not be possible but from the outliner it should be somehoe doable, shouldn't it?

it's 2008 - drag and drop has been with us since at LEAST 1984 (or so) - maybe we could make it possible to utilize new and proven technologies like that...

Drag from outliner to Object field in contsraints and modifiers etc...

=)

just a thought.
