Description
The big majority of the users use the Turntable view-rotation system so why is Trackball still enabled by default?
It's a small thing to change but will result in less chased away people who try out blender for the first time.

How do you know that the majority uses the turntable view rotation?

Great idea, everyone I've showed this program to has ended up getting themselves totaly disoriented and cofused untill I've showed them how to setup the turntable option.

musk,
cause everybody i know uses the turntable view rotation.
cause a turntable-like view-rotation system is the default in most other 3d packages too.

True, but trackball allows more freedom in navigation, and it's a shame other 3D apps don't have it.
Now I couldn't use turntable as I would lose lot of time. If turntable is the default many new blender users won't know trackball exists.

thats funny because I never knew turnable existed. I tried to use it too, but it didn't seem to work (probably because I don't know what it does), so I checked the wiki and it sounded similar to using the number pad?

Not sure how other application treat this. If most have Turntable and Blender has trackball, it can be... confusing (especially since setting it self is "hidden" at the first thought).
But generally, just configuring your own preference and saving it as Blender defaults (temporary fix).
Id say, we should look how other applications do it and follow them. For all the new people coming blender this would simplyfy it. For the rest of us, we'll use the modification of preferences and saving it as blender default for our installs.
I my self use the trackball due to the better freedom, but sometimes even i get confused (in wireframe) where i am ;)

It would be nice if holding ALT while using MMB to rotate view would switch from turntable > trackball (or vice-versa -- opposite from what you were currently using).
Wouldn't this give the best of both worlds?
